BMW Motorrad prepares for April showers with launch of new 100% waterproof leathers

As April begins riders throughout Britain are preparing for the traditionally showery month ahead, but rest assured BMW Motorrad have prepared for this with the release of a new version of the nappa leather Atlantis 4 suit. The new suit is now 100% waterproof keeping its wearer both warm and dry.

Buying an expensive ‘off-the-peg’ suit can be something of a lottery because although it may seem comfortable at first, a long stint in the saddle can often reveal many small and irritating problems. Typically, these can include bunching and pinching under the armpits and chafing behind the knees. BMW Motorrad recognises this and has completely redesigned the consistently popular Atlantis 4 suit and manufactured it from exceptionally soft nubuk calfskin. However, not one iota of safety was compromised.

But it’s not just the nubuk calfskin that makes the Atlantis 4 a definitive riding suit; the great look of the anthracite colour and advanced technology is indicative of the standard of the BMW Rider Equipment range as a whole.

Under the water-repellent 1.2mm to 1.4mm calfskin, the suit is as waterproof as technology allows – even without a climate-conditioning membrane. It has an extremely low water absorption rate (a maximum of 10% of its own weight) and short drying times. The natural open-pore material provides inherent climate comfort and excellent breathability. To prevent water ingress the inside of every seam is sealed with a special adhesive tape. All zippers facing the weather elements are rubber-coated and also designed to repel water.

The use of EU-certified NP protectors at shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees ensure and improve passive safety, as does the reflective material incorporated at the shoulders. When required, an optional coccyx protector can be integrated into the suit. Two outside and two inside pockets in the jacket, plus another two in the trousers, complete the high quality functional features.

To prevent irritation that could affect concentration, stretch zones in the shoulder and back area, collar, sleeves, waist and trousers guarantee maximum wear comfort. The shaped sleeves and knees also enable a more comfortable and natural riding posture. To ensure a perfect fit, the individually styled ladies’ and men’s suits can be assembled from different size jackets and trousers – if required.

The Atlantis 4 suit is available in sizes 36 to 46 for women and sizes 46 to 66, 98 to 118 and 25 to 32 for men. The recommended retail price is £540 for the jacket and £435 for the trousers.
