Following the huge success of the Navigator III, BMW Motorrad has joined forces with Garmin, the world’s leading mobile navigation device company, to launch a brand new navigation system for BMW riders - the BMW Motorrad zūmo. Designed to provide cutting edge technology at an affordable price, this new system offers an economical alternative to the popular Navigator III.
The zūmo - described by Garmin as ‘the navigator that’s born to ride’ - has been fitted with a variety of features, giving it an edge over car based navigator systems. These features have been specifically designed with the motorcycle rider in mind, offering a rider friendly product which includes glove friendly operation.
The BMW Motorrad zūmo is highly advanced but easy to use. The bright display makes it easy to view the screen when riding even in bright sunlight, while the large icons and left handed controls make the zūmo more functional and easy to use. The zūmo is also designed to be resistant to the elements. In addition to being waterproof, this system comes with a fuel and UV-resistant screen, a wide operative temperature range, and has been vibration tested to ensure durability.
The zūmo’s Bluetooth capabilities also enable it to be linked to the rider’s helmet, and a mobile phone, providing hands free communication while keeping riders on course for their destination.
The navigation system comes pre-loaded with full European mapping, all ready to plot and go. Its multi-point auto routing enables the rider to pre-plan routes, whether that be finding new roads to freshen up daily commutes to work, or planning a tour or holiday through the Pyrenees Mountains. Routes can be planned on the computer before being loaded onto the zūmo, and can even be loaded onto Google Earth, enabling riders to display and share routes with others.
Another convenient option when travelling on unfamiliar journeys is the zūmo’s extensive ‘Points of Interest’ database, which provides riders with highly accurate and useful information, including where both the rider and bike can refuel en route. Further to this, the zūmo’s fuel gauge icon will keep track of your petrol consumption, providing plenty of warning for any unplanned fuel stops.
Additional features include MP3 compatibility as well as a JPEG picture viewer to share photos with friends and family. Also available as an additional accessory is TMC traffic reporting. The zūmo can receive optional TMC traffic alerts by simply pressing a button on the screen, which recalculates your route to avoid traffic jams or congestion.
Further accessories are available including a variety of endcaps, for individual customisation of the product.
While the zūmo has been primarily designed to fit a wide range of BMW motorcycles, the system can also be used in cars, with the purchase of the car kit, or on foot by simply switching to battery power.
The BMW zūmo is now available in BMW Motorrad dealerships, priced at £475, with the TMC option available at an additional £111 (including lifetime subscription to TMC licence).
