The difference is Williams

On a day that saw a number of big name players struggle with the heavy, wet conditions, it was left to the 2002 winner Hansen to play consistent golf on the final day. Hansen was one of the most accurate from tee to green, but left it until the 72nd hole before taking the outright lead at eight under par. Rose, playing in the following group, joined him at eight under par after hitting a pressure-laden third shot to within two feet of the 18th hole. Both players had to wait for the final group of the day, the third round leaders Broadhurst and Fisher who finished the tournament eight and 12 over respectively, before heading down the 18th to commence the playoff.
Rose's waywardness off the tee was to be his undoing again, with a pushed effort ending in the right rough. Both players were then on the green in regulation, with Rose actually looking the more likely to putt for the win. But it was the Dane who triumphed with a beauty of a putt that was perfect for line and pace. Rose's effort was low and the BMW PGA Championship was Hansen's for the second time.
Earlier in the day the tournament was set for an exciting finish when Vijay Singh fired a six under par 66 to vault to the top of the leaderboard. Waiting in the clubhouse, Singh saw first Hansen and Rose then Richard Sterne join him at seven under par.
Sterne, making the most of his long carry from the tee, was playing well but again lacked the consistency that could have made him champion. Of the other challengers, Angel Cabrera bounced back strongly from a poor third round to be the outright leader on the back nine but a double-bogey six on the 15th dropped him out of contention.
The 2007 BMW PGA Championship has ended for another year with the Dane, Anders Hansen claiming the top prize from an outstanding field in challenging conditions at the Wentworth Club.
