The Lower Emissions Allowance (sometimes known as the diesel scrappage scheme) is a new incentive aimed at taking old diesel models off the road in favor of more eco-friendly models. This means owners of a Euro 4 (EU4) emission standard or below diesel vehicle can now trade-in their current vehicle for any model across the BMW Range with emissions of 130g/km and below (currently 80 per cent of the range), or any BMW i or iPerformance model. When trading in a qualifying diesel vehicle you will receive and additional £2,000 on top of your vehicle trade-in price.
If you currently own a diesel vehicle that was registered before January 2011, you may be eligible for this offer. The allowance is available to drivers of any make or model vehicle that is an EU4 or below diesel towards a new qualifying BMW registered before 31 December 2017.

The Lower Emisisons Allowance aims to take EU4 standard vehicles off the road with the aim of reducing exhaust pollutants, to make cars more environmentally friendly. Those cars are to be replaced by EU6 compliant vehicles. The EU6 legislation sets restrictions on how much nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon gases may be emitted by a road vehicle.
To put the standards into perspective, the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) claims: "It would take 50 new cars today to produce the same amount of pollutant emissions as one vehicle built in the 1970s."
All new BMW and MINI vehicles sold today are EU6 compliant and use some of today's cleanest and most efficient engine technology across the entire model range.
BMW Group has been named the world’s most sustainable car maker for the last three consecutive years, according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). Meaning that whatever your needs there is a BMW to suit you. However, it is important to choose the right engine for your needs and driving style.
