The power that lies beneath the X5’s bonnet is reflected in the vehicle’s appealingly muscular body. A raised ride height, rising window line and rakish roofline add further to its distinctly athletic qualities, too. Nevertheless, the X5 is a practical SUV, with a five-door body, for instance, that ensures passenger and cargo access is always straightforward.

Performance

Close X

Even with an entry-level 3.0-litre 261bhp diesel engine installed beneath the bonnet, you can expect above-average results. That’s because this six-cylinder unit produces 620Nm of torque, 0-60mph in approximately 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 143mph. Even greater power is delivered by a 3.0-litre 395bhp engine, which delivers a peak torque of 760Nm. This allows the X5 to achieve 0-60mph in roughly five seconds and a maximum speed of 155mph. If fuel-efficiency is of paramount importance, there’s only really one option: a plug-in hybrid variant. With a 3.0-litre 282bhp petrol-electric engine, you can expect combined fuel consumption figures that range between 188.3mpg and 235.4mpg, and CO2 emissions from just 27g/km.
