The compact XE Portfolio has a classic saloon profile which is punctuated by Jaguar hallmarks. They include the rectangular front grille which is framed by a chrome surround and sits between narrow bi-function Xenon HID headlamps. Chrome side power vents hint at the car's high-performance, while strong alloy wheels carry the XE confidently in all conditions. Alloy wheel options include 17-inch 'Aerodynamic' ten-spoke alloys and all others are fitted with stylish 18-inch six-spoke rims.
Inside the XE Portfolio you will find more sophisticated design features as well as a practical arrangement. The interior has space for five people with 455 litres of luggage in the boot. Windsor soft grain leather seats complement the leather-wrapped dashboard, and the seats in the front are ten-way adjustable to help you find the most comfortable driving position.
The Portfolio-spec XE includes a top of the range Meridian Sound System. It features 11 speakers and includes Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for crisp sound output. Also fitted as standard is InControl Touch which combines a number of in-car functions. Audio, satellite navigation, climate and telephone connectivity can all be commanded through an eight-inch colour touchscreen integrated with the dashboard. By linking your smartphone to the system you can do more than take calls hands-free with apps being integrated to keep you fully engaged.
Both petrol and diesel engines are
are on offer in the XE Portfolio. The sole petrol is Jaguar's
2.0-litre turbocharged i4 with 240PS. With the help of an eight-speed
automatic gearbox it surges from 0-60mph in just 6.4 seconds. There are
four diesel options – a 163PS or 180PS 2.0-litre unit with either
manual or automatic transmission. Select the 163PS for peak fuel economy
of 75mpg combined or the 180PS unit to complete 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds.
The XE's engines are fitted to a new aluminium architecture which not only enhances the car's economy and performance but its safety too. The frame is rigid and strong to deliver excellent crash protection. Preventing accidents in the first instance is active Jaguar technology. The highlights include All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) which helps the vehicle to find traction on slippery surfaces so you can focus on steering out of trouble. Lane Departure Warning provides an alert if you begin to inadvertently leave your lane and Hill Launch Assist stops the car from rolling when you pull away on a slope.
