The new BMW R 1200 R epitomises the manufacturer's performance excellence, aesthetic appeal and design capabilities, and brings them together in a bike that can be considered a true all-rounder. It stands apart from rivalling models in many areas, with none able to replicate its unique riding dynamic.
BMW made a number of design tweaks to the outgoing example when developing today's R 1200 R, including tightening the body for a more compact shape. At the front there are upside-down forks too, which not only add to the striking visual but ensure greater stability when cornering. An overall sleek shape is created by sharp lines streaking down the frame, emphasising the bike's fluid movement.
With three paint finishes to choose from you can select the detail that matches your tastes. Thunder grey metallic merges with the dark upholstery for a sophisticated theme, while contrasting Cordoba blue and Light white help you to make an instant impression on the road. The Light white option also arrives with a bold red graphic on the fuel tank and the same eye-catching shade for the frame.
Cutting-edge technology underpins the R 1200 R's inspiring performance, as it courses through the roadster's 123bhp four-stroke petrol engine. Multiple ride modes allow you to adjust performance instantly at the push of a button, and with 125Nm available confident acceleration is felt no matter which of the six gears you select. A combination of telelever and paralever suspension systems are a hallmark of BMW's motorcycle range, and feature here to minimise road vibrations on the most uneven of surfaces.
Safety remains a priority for BMW, and the roadster is a good example of this. The firm's Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) comes as standard to help prevent skidding when braking heavily, while the 320mm twin rear disc brakes keep stopping distances down. There's plenty on the options list should you want added protection, such as cruise control, Tyre Pressure Control (TSC) and a daytime riding light
The BMW R 1200 R should be on the list for any rider considering an upgrade in the roadster class, and it's available from Williams Motorcycles in Manchester. Find out more and schedule a test ride by getting in touch with our expert team.
