In the sleek and compact BMW i3, the advantages of electric driving make every journey a joy. It's made for city motoring, keeping you going for even longer, and is carefully designed to be as sustainable and efficient as possible in every aspect. For the environmentally-conscious motorist, the i3 is a stylish, confident option that never fails to make an impact.
Alongside the full electric power system, technology in the car can be found and experienced everywhere you look. Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity is available, DAB digital radio brings music along for the ride, and BMW ConnectedDrive services include Emergency Call and the Remote App interface. You also benefit from the BMW Navigation System for Business, helping you find your way with confidence around unfamiliar roads.
Vibrant blue highlights across the body single out the i3 as an electric car. They ring the trademark BMW split kidney grille and trail along the subtly sculpted side panels. The bonnet, roof and tailgate are finished in a glossy black, to contrast against any of the bold paintwork colour options. A rear spoiler is a sporty touch, and it incorporates a third high-mounted brake light. Sensors on the outside of the i3 help to activate the headlights and wipers just as they're required.
On the inside, the multifunction steering wheel is also finished in bright blue. The finish throughout is of an impeccable quality, with smart grey and black cloth upholstery and a grained metallic finish for the instrument panel.
A front armrest adds to your comfort with both accessible positioning and built-in storage.
The electric motor in the i3 generates zero CO2 emissions, and it gives the car exemption from the London Congestion Charge and other motoring taxes and charges. The motor is positioned, along with the lithium-ion battery, to support the car's low centre of gravity. It also produces the equivalent of 170bhp and a forceful 250Nm of torque, covering 0-60mph within only eight seconds. With eDrive technology, you can brake simply by lifting your foot from the accelerator pedal.
Charging the battery is simple – you can do so at home, via an installed home charging point, or top up at any public point in the UK's rapidly-growing infrastructure. A rapid charge can take as little as half an hour, getting you back on the move with minimal delays. When specified with the Range Extender, the i3 claims a range of as much as 186 miles from a full charge.
As you travel, you can be confident that the car is alert and ready to ensure your safety. The cabin itself is made from a carbon fibre reinforced plastic shell, which acts as the first layer of defence. All windows are also made from tempered safety glass. Standard equipment in the i3 also includes protective measures such as front, side and head airbags, side impact protection, Dynamic Stability Control+, ABS and the Tyre Puncture Warning System.
