We’ve written about the New Defender OCTA before, promising updates in early Q3 amidst rumours a full reveal would be in July 2024. Well Defender have delivered on that promise and we thought we’d dive deep into the most extreme Defender yet by giving you 8 key facts about the latest SUV to join the line-up.
Powered by a 635PS 4.4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with high and low range gears, this is the most powerful and extreme Defender ever created.
In its prime condition – featuring 22‑inch lightweight alloy wheels and all‑season tyres – the New Defender OCTA can reach up to 155mph.
The new Defender OCTA's dynamic capabilities surpass any previous Defender, featuring the debut of hydraulically‑interlinked 6D Dynamics suspension technology. Combined with extensive hardware and geometry changes, it is uniquely designed to be as enjoyable to drive on-road as it is off-road, with no compromises.
The Defender OCTA sits 28mm higher and features a stance
widened by 68mm, enhancing ground clearance and stability. To ensure
unparalleled confidence and control on any terrain, it offers maximum wheel
articulation off-road and reduced roll on-road. The revised suspension
components include longer and tougher wishbones, along with unique active
dampers featuring separate accumulators.
In addition to the above, the New Defender OCTA features uprated 400mm front brake discs with Brembo callipers and the fastest steering ratio of any Defender to date, for immediate and precise responses.
The Defender OCTA’s imposing presence and all-terrain focus receive a bold new attitude from the previous Defender line-up. It features 33-inch diameter tyres, the largest ever fitted to a production Defender, including the Goodyear Advanced All-Terrain Tyre developed specifically for the OCTA model. This necessitated extended wheel arches, which complement off-road-optimised front bodywork with unique grille designs for enhanced under-bonnet airflow. The new rear bumper incorporates a four-exit active exhaust system, while tough underbody protection includes an aluminium alloy front under shield with a graphite finish and exposed Phosphor Bronze-finished front and rear recovery points.
As for the interior, curated selections set the New Defender OCTA apart. Two highly durable UltrafabricsTM PU options – 30 per cent lighter than traditional leather – are available.
For Defender OCTA, the standard interior is a new Burnt Sienna semi‑aniline leather, with KvadratTM textile trim in Ebony.
