Built for adventure and as reliable as ever, the new Discovery is one of the toughest and fastest SUVs around. That doesn’t mean that you have to compromise on comfort; it’s laced with luxury and has up to seven full sized seats, so everyone can sit back and relax while it tackles the most difficult terrain without a hitch.
The latest edition of the Discovery has a bold and imposing new look, although it is as much as 480kg lighter than its predecessor. Its reduced weight, as long as its improved aerodynamic qualities and lowered drag coefficient, has had a marked effect on performance and driving dynamics. Every journey can get off to a rapid start, thanks to the heated front and rear windscreens and wing mirrors which quickly clear any ice or fog. Front and rear skidplates help to protect the chassis when scrambling over rocky surfaces. LED lights ensure excellent illumination in the most difficult conditions, as well as adding to the car’s distinctive looks.
The modular seven-seat interior layout means that you can fold down six of the seats to create a layout to suit every journey. The variety of flexible configurations mean that the Discovery’s loadspace can be extended to a colossal 2,406 litres with five of the seven seats folded down; with the second row of seats in place 1,137 litres of storage space is still available, and even with a full complement of passengers there is still 258 litres to stow luggage and provisions. This versatility makes the Discovery ideal for when you need to take sports gear or other bulky items with you.
The cockpit is a luxurious place in which to spend time, with its waterfall fascia, ambient lighting and premium leather, authentic wood and metal finishing throughout. The wide central console creates feeling of space and acts as a broad armrest that both you and a passenger can make use of. Dual-zone climate control will keep everyone perfectly cool - and from the HSE trim upwards, both front and rear seats are heated. For extra convenience and connectivity, passengers can access any of 9 USB plugs in all three rows of seats. Furthermore, those with limited mobility can use our Intelligent Seat Fold app to fold the seats into the floor remotely. A variety of extra options are available to make your journey even more agreeable. The Activity Key, a robust and waterproof wristband that automatically locks and unlocks your vehicle when you are within a certain distance, is a useful feature for those with an active lifestyle concerned with losing conventional keys during strenuous activities. Choose to add the panoramic roof to feel more connected with your surroundings, or the 14-speaker Meridian audio system, which delivers crystal-clear sound and deadens external noise with its Dynamic Volume Control technology.
InControl Touch comes as standard in the new Land Rover Discovery. It’s controlled using a touchscreen and enables you to play any music you want and will get you where you need to be on your preferred route using the navigation. You can opt to upgrade the trim level to get parking sensors, a rear-view camera and Blind Spot Monitoring, all of which are particularly convenient when driving around busy urban streets.
Drivers looking to extend their luggage capacity with a trailer may well find the advanced Advanced Tow Assist technology to be a great help. Accessed through the touchscreen, this system can be specially calibrated (with the help of some basic information) to help you manoeuvre the bulkiest of trailers (up to 3,500kg) with ease.
Committed off-road drivers may also like to think of adding optional wade sensors. Located in the door mirrors, these transmit a visual representation of how deep your Discovery is in the water when fording a stream, and how this compares to the vehicle’s class-leading maximum wading depths of 900mm.
