Jaguar has revealed the new Type 01, the first production model to arrive as part of the brand’s new era. Unveiled in New York, the all-electric four-door Grand Tourer follows the dramatic Type 00 concept first shown in 2024 and gives us our clearest look yet at the future of Jaguar.
With a completely new design, more than 1,000 HP and a targeted electric range of up to 450 miles, the Type 01 represents a major step forward for the British brand.
The Type 00 concept introduced Jaguar’s new design direction, and much of that look has made its way into the production Type 01. A long bonnet, low roofline and wide stance give it classic Grand Tourer proportions, while slim LED lighting, frameless doors and 23-inch wheels create a much more modern appearance.
At the rear, the glassless tailgate and full-width lighting continue the distinctive design. Rather than taking inspiration from one particular Jaguar from the past, Type 01 has been created to establish a completely new identity for the brand.
Performance remains a major part of the Jaguar story. The Type 01 uses three electric motors to produce more than 1,000 HP, making it one of the most powerful production Jaguars to date, while power is sent to all four wheels to help deliver a 0–62mph time of as little as 3.2 seconds.
But outright speed is only part of the story. Jaguar has developed the Type 01 as a true Grand Tourer, combining strong performance with comfort and refinement over longer journeys. Air suspension, active dampers, all-wheel steering and torque vectoring all play a part in creating that balance.
The Type 01 sits on Jaguar’s new dedicated electric platform, known as Jaguar Electric Architecture. Its 118kWh usable battery provides a targeted WLTP range of up to 450 miles, making long-distance driving a key part of its appeal.
Rapid charging of up to 350kW also means around 200 miles of range can be added in approximately 13 minutes when connected to a suitable charger, helping make longer journeys quicker and easier.
The interior has been given the same fresh approach as the exterior. The cabin is designed around four individual seats, separated by a centre spine running through the car, while materials including textiles, metal and natural finishes are used throughout to create a more distinctive take on luxury.
Technology is integrated into the design, with a 24-inch OLED display joined by a secondary touchscreen for key controls. Other features include Meridian audio, Active Road Noise Cancellation, massage seats, full‑range Panoramic Soundbar and configurable Cabin Moods.
Despite being a large four-door Grand Tourer, the Type 01 has been designed more as a 2+2 than a traditional luxury saloon, with a stronger focus on design, comfort and the driving experience.
The Jaguar Type 01 has been designed and engineered in the UK and will be built at JLR’s Solihull plant. Its name also reflects its importance to the brand: “Type” connects the car with some of Jaguar’s most recognisable models, while “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first production model in this new generation.
The Type 01 also uses its own dedicated Jaguar platform rather than sharing its foundations with existing Land Rover models, reinforcing just how much has changed.
Orders for the new Jaguar Type 01 are expected to open in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries planned for later in the year. It will sit firmly within the luxury end of the market, marking a significant change from Jaguar’s previous model range.
The Type 01 is more than simply a new Jaguar model. It is the starting point for a completely new generation of cars and gives us the clearest indication yet of where the brand is heading next.
