Your Questions Answered

What does a full car service include?

Close

A full service is a thorough check of your car designed to keep it running safely and efficiently. The exact work required depends on your vehicle and its manufacturer servicing schedule, but it will typically include checks of key components, fluid levels, brakes, tyres, steering and suspension, alongside any scheduled oil or filter changes.

At Williams, our manufacturer-trained technicians use the latest diagnostic equipment and genuine, approved parts where replacements are required.

What does a minor car service include?

Close

A minor service focuses on the essential maintenance your car needs between more comprehensive services. Depending on the vehicle, this may include an oil and filter change, fluid checks and an inspection of important safety and wear items.

Your Williams service team will follow the servicing requirements for your particular model, so you only have the work carried out when it’s needed.

How much does it cost to service my car?

Close

Servicing costs vary depending on your vehicle, its age, mileage and the work required. Some manufacturers also offer fixed-price servicing or service plans that can help you spread or manage the cost.

Williams offers servicing options across our brands, and our team can provide a quote based on your specific car before any work is carried out.

How often should I get my oil changed?

Close

How often your oil needs changing depends on your car, engine and how you use it. Many modern cars monitor oil condition and will let you know when a change is due, while others follow a set time or mileage interval.

The best guide is your vehicle’s manufacturer servicing schedule. If you’re unsure, your local Williams service team can check what’s due and when.

What does an interim service include?

Close

An interim service is designed to check the essentials between full services, particularly if you cover a lot of miles.

It will usually focus on items such as engine oil, filters, fluid levels, tyres, brakes and other important safety checks. The exact work carried out will depend on your vehicle and its manufacturer requirements.

How long does a car service take?

Close

It depends on the type of service and whether any additional work is required. Williams offers everything from shorter maintenance checks through to comprehensive servicing, so some appointments can be completed relatively quickly while others may take longer.

We’ll let you know what to expect when you book and keep you updated if our technicians identify anything that needs further attention.

How do I book a service online?

Close

You can book your service or MOT through the Williams website. Choose your brand and preferred Williams centre, enter your vehicle details and submit your booking request.

Our online booking service is available at any time, so you don’t need to wait for the dealership to be open. Our team will then confirm the details of your appointment.

How long does a car repair take?

Close

Repair times depend on the problem, the work required and whether any replacement parts are needed.

Once we’ve inspected your car, our Williams service team will explain what needs to be done and give you a clearer idea of how long the repair should take. We’ll also keep you updated while your vehicle is with us.

When does my car need an MOT?

Close

Most cars need their first MOT once they are three years old and then every year after that, although there are some exceptions.

If your MOT is approaching, you can book it with Williams online alongside any servicing or maintenance your vehicle may need.

How long does an MOT test take?

Close

An MOT test will typically take around an hour, although the overall appointment may be longer if any additional checks or repairs are required.

When you book with Williams, we’ll let you know how long we expect your car to be with us and contact you if anything needs attention.

How often do car tyres need changing?

Close

There isn’t a set replacement interval for tyres. How long they last depends on mileage, driving style, road conditions, tyre pressures and how evenly they wear.

Regular checks are important, and your Williams team can inspect your tyres as part of routine servicing or maintenance and let you know when replacement is recommended.

How do I know when my tyres need replacing?

Close

Check your tyres regularly for low tread, cuts, cracks, bulges or uneven wear. The legal minimum tread depth for most cars in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, but you may choose to replace them sooner as performance can reduce as the tread wears.

If you’re unsure about the condition of your tyres, our Williams technicians can check them for you.

Do electric cars need servicing?

Close

Yes. Electric cars have fewer moving parts than petrol or diesel cars, but they still need regular maintenance.

At Williams, our EV servicing can include checks of the high-voltage battery, charging system and vehicle software, as well as more familiar items such as brakes, tyres, suspension, steering, cooling systems and cabin filters. Our technicians are trained to work safely with high-voltage electric vehicle systems. Learn more here.

How often do you service an electric car?

Close

The servicing schedule for an electric car depends on the manufacturer and model. Your vehicle will usually tell you when maintenance is due, or you can follow the recommended time and mileage intervals in its servicing schedule.

Williams provides dedicated electric vehicle servicing for BMW, MINI, Jaguar and Land Rover models, and our team can tell you exactly when your particular car needs attention.

Do electric cars need less servicing?

Close

Generally, electric cars have fewer mechanical components that require routine maintenance because there is no conventional combustion engine, engine oil or exhaust system.

However, they still need important checks to components including the battery and charging system, brakes, tyres, suspension, steering and cooling systems. Regular servicing remains important for safety, reliability and long-term vehicle health.
