It still qualifies for the smallest of our Premium SUV categories, but the MINI Countryman is actually a fantastic example of how to make a MINI bigger than ever. The latest edition of the British brand’s SUV is large enough to match the likes of a Nissan Qashqai for space and practicality – and yet it still manages to feel like a MINI.
Now rivalling the size of the Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage, the New MINI Countryman is bigger than its predecessor.
At a staggering 13cm longer, 6cm wider and 8cm taller than the car it replaced, this MINI is MAXI by comparison. Behind the rear seats the boot space boasts 480 litres, which is 30 litres more than the previous Countryman. In fact, the new Countryman's boot is bigger than the boot on a Volvo XC40!
The infotainment system has been updated, featuring the latest MINI operating system. It looks great, responds quickly to touch, and its circular design is unapologetically MINI and is a fitting homage to the original Mini central speedo design.
By using top-of-the-market electric car components from fifth-generation BMW eDrive motors, batteries, and controllers, and offering a technical spec nearly identical to the BMW iX1 SUV and iX2 SUV coupe, this vehicle has the potential to attract significant attention.
Both the new MINI Countryman C and S variants have received increases to their peak power and torque outputs over and above when compared to the previous generation.
It's effortless to drive at low speeds and offers plenty of mid-range power when you need a burst of acceleration. The New Countryman achieved a respectable 0-60 mph time of 8.4 seconds, outperforming the Volvo XC40 B3 (8.7 seconds) and the VW Tiguan eTSI 150 (9.0 seconds) during the same day of testing at What Car? Headquarters.
The New All-Electric Countryman offers a maximum WLTP driving range of 287 miles per charge, which is an increase of 20% compared to a Hyundai IONIQ 5.
In 2024, MINI has also chosen to eliminate chrome and leather from all their models, including the Countryman. MINI maintains a premium interior feel by utilising recycled or sustainably sourced materials. Meanwhile, the dashboards, steering wheels, headliners, and floor mats are crafted from recycled polyester derived from PET bottles and carpet remnants. Sections of the doors and dash are adorned with a woven fabric that looks stylish and modern while remaining durable and resistant to dirt and fingerprints.
As previously stated, the third generation of the largest model in the MINI family has grown even further in size. The new Countryman is taller and longer than its predecessor, making it a strong contender for anyone considering an Audi Q2, BMW X1, or Mercedes GLA – and it’s at a lower price point than these cars; saving you money for more important things like spending time with your loved ones.
