The BMW R 20 Concept; Up Close

The chassis of the BMW R 20 Concept has been completely redeveloped, featuring a black double-loop main frame constructed from chrome-molybdenum steel tubes, serving as the backbone. At the rear, a black 17x6.25-inch disc wheel with a 200/55 tyre is mounted, while the front sports a 17-inch spoke wheel with black spokes and a 120/70 tyre. This blend of traditional and modern elements defines the BMW R 20 Concept.

The proven BMW Paralever system is reimagined in a new two-arm variant, with a swingarm made of chrome-molybdenum steel and an aluminium Paralever strut, designed to balance the drive torque perfectly. High-quality details include two milled aluminium rear axle carriers. The exposed driveshaft, a visual highlight inspired by the R18 models, has been shortened to fit the roadster architecture.

For suspension, fully adjustable Öhlins Blackline components are used at both the front and rear. The vehicle's geometry features a steering head angle of 62.5° and a wheelbase of 1,550 mm. Braking is managed by radially mounted ISR brake callipers with six pistons at the front and four pistons per calliper at the rear.

Additionally, the 2-in-2 exhaust system not only delivers the appropriate sound character but also perfectly complements the overall design.

Bold in Style

The R20 concept is a bold interpretation of the BMW Motorrad DNA. It combines modern technical elements with a classic roadster design. Its oversized proportions and minimalistic aesthetic make it an unmistakable character.

The aluminium tank of the BMW R 20 Concept has been redesigned and now features the progressive 1970s colour "hotter than pink." This striking hue is coordinated with polished and anodized aluminium cylinder head covers, belt cover, and air intake funnels. Additionally, the Paralever strut, footrest system, and ISR brake callipers are finished in gunmetal to complement the overall aesthetic.

The taillight is seamlessly integrated into the single seat, which is upholstered in quilted black Alcantara and fine-grain leather, enhancing the dynamic roadster look with its compact rear. A modern LED headlight, crafted from a 3D-printed aluminium ring with an integrated daytime running light, adds a contemporary touch. The main headlight appears to float within this ring, creating a distinctive visual effect.

Each of these meticulously designed details contributes to the unique character of the BMW R 20 Concept, underscoring its statement: The BMW R 20 Concept elevates Big Boxer Culture to new heights.

As a Big Boxer Roadster, the BMW R 20 concept sets new standards in the world of motorcycles and confirms BMW Motorrad's commitment to the finest engineering and the pure passion for motorcycling.
