The 3 Series Touring is proof that estate cars needn’t look dowdy. As with other models in the range, this one is very easy on the eye, with body-coloured fixtures that subtly enhance your paint finish of choice, and chrome touches that add extra lustre.
The 3 Series Tourer improves on the interior space offered by either the Mercedes C-Class or the Audi A4 Avant, offering more legroom in the process, even for rear-seated travellers. Three child seats can be secured across the back row too. Boot space, meanwhile, stands at a minimum 500 litres.
A standard-issue 2.0-litre petrol engine offers a good balance of power and efficiency. This 156bhp unit delivers 0-60mph in approximately 8.5 seconds, up to 42.2mpg and CO2 emissions from 152g/km. The greenest choice is a 2.0-litre 190bhp diesel engine, which returns as much as 57.6mpg while producing emissions from just 127g/km. It’s worth noting that this engine also enables the car to go from 0-60mph in a shade less than seven seconds. The most potent option available is a 3.0-litre 374bhp petrol unit, which produces 500Nm of torque and 0-60mph in roughly 4.3 seconds.
