The new eighth-generation BMW 5 Series has arrived, with the
5 Series saloon on sale now, with Touring estate
models expected to arrive in 2024.
This imperious saloon has found favour with high-powered professionals and style-conscious households alike, and one of the main reasons for this is down to the way it looks. A subtly muscular four-door body, smartly contoured bonnet and flanks and a swept back roofline are just three examples of why this car is held in such high esteem. A tilt-and-slide sunroof is standard, but you can also opt for a large, fixed glass roof that extends into the rear seat area.
Inside, travellers are treated to a roomy environment, whether seated in the front or back. You’ll find that head, elbow and legroom are generous, to the extent that five full-size adults can be conveyed with absolute comfort, even during the longest of journeys. There’s also space for a 530-litre boot that features a low load sill and wide aperture, making usability as simple as can be.
For 2024, the 5-series will be offered in 530i, 540i, and 550e guises, with the 530i getting a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and either rear- or all-wheel drive. The 540i comes with all-wheel drive standard as well as a 375-hp turbocharged inline-six. Both are augmented by a 48-volt hybrid system...powerful enough to hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
All 5-series models come with a large curved digital panel with a 12.3-inch reconfigurable gauge display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. A heads-up display is optional, but all models come standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, and a video game system BMW calls AirConsole that can only be used when the car is parked.
