The new BMW X5 comes with a health spec as standard, even in the entry-level 30d xLine you can expect 19-inch alloys, electric heated leather seats, DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity for phone calls and media playback, Electric anti-dazzle folding mirrors, gesture controls, WiFi hotspot, parking assist and LED Foglights up front. If that isn’t enough there are a range of options that can be added to personalise your next BMW X5.
Wider, longer and taller than the previous generation X5, the complete visual makeover of the new BMW X5 makes it stands out from its competitors. The most noticeable change is the larger trademark kidney grills gracing the front end, flanked by a paid or BMW LED headlights that have improved the range of visibility at night to 500 meters on full beam.
There is room inside for all the family and enough luxury comforts to keep everyone happy on any long journey. The split tailgate opens up to an impressive 650-litre boot space meaning you can get a healthy amount of luggage in as well! It can be expanded further by laying the rear seats flat. Once they are down capacity is taken to 1,870-litres. An optional hands-free tailgate and electronic retractable load cover also add an extra level of practicality.
While every manufacturer has their own multimedia infotainment system, the BMW iDrive system is often rated as one of the best systems on the market today. It’s simple to use, intuitive and uncluttered and now BMWs new gesture controls will now let you activate some of the iDrive functions with a simple wave of the hand. This means you can concentrate more on the road ahead.
The new BMW X5 might be a large luxury SUV, but the driving dynamics are what we’ve all come to expect from every BMW in the range. 0-62mph in the entry-level 30d xLine is a brisk 6.5 seconds, whereas the top spec M50d M Sport with its quad-turbocharged straight-six engine can do the dash in 5.2 seconds. Straight line speed isn’t the only impressive factor of the BMW X5s handling, on a twisty road you can expect the feeling of a high-end saloon car; refined, sophisticated and capable.
